What Did This Burbank Reroof Project Involve?
This was a complete single reroof at 730 N Naomi St in Burbank, CA — a single-family home that had sustained significant storm damage, leaving large sections of the pitched roof with shingles blown completely off and wood decking exposed. Beyond the pitched slope, the property also had an adjoining flat roof section and a brick chimney with flashing that had visibly separated and was lifting away from the masonry. The homeowner’s goal was straightforward: get a fully watertight roof before the next rain season.
Burbank sits in the eastern San Fernando Valley, where the National Weather Service Los Angeles office regularly documents the late-fall and winter rain events that punish aging residential roofs — especially those with shingles already past their serviceable life. This roof needed more than a patch.

What Did We Find When We Got on the Roof?
The inspection confirmed two distinct problem areas that had to be addressed simultaneously: a pitched asphalt shingle section with widespread wind and storm damage, and a flat section that had reached the end of its useful life. The chimney flashing — visible in the featured photo at the top of this article — had completely separated along the base of the brick, leaving a direct water-infiltration pathway every time it rained.
As you can see in the photo above, the storm had stripped shingles across a substantial portion of the pitched roof, exposing raw OSB decking to the elements. Shingle debris had also landed in the front yard. Our crew documented at least 3 distinct zones of full shingle loss before the tear-off even began. Our crews in the Burbank and greater San Fernando Valley area see this pattern on roughly 60% of the storm-damage calls we respond to — wind gets under a tab edge compromised by age, and once one course lifts, an entire field can go in a single event.
How Was the Deck Prepped Before New Materials Went Down?
Before any new roofing material could be installed, every square foot of the stripped decking had to be cleaned, inspected for soft spots, and confirmed structurally sound. The gallery photos show the deck mid-project: old fasteners pulled, rotted or delaminated panel sections replaced, and the surface blown clean. This step is non-negotiable — new shingles installed over compromised decking will fail prematurely regardless of the shingle quality.
Once the deck passed inspection, the crew rolled out GAF TigerPaw premium roof deck protection underlayment across the full pitched surface. TigerPaw is a synthetic underlayment rated for 6 months of temporary exposure — important on a project of this scope where phased installation means portions of the deck may be exposed for 1 to 2 days at a time. The stacked bundles of new shingles staged on the roof in the gallery images confirm the material was on-site and ready for immediate installation behind the underlayment crew.
How Was the Flat Roof Section Handled?
The flat section adjacent to the pitched roof received a new white TPO membrane, visible in the featured photo as the bright white surface running along the left side of the roof. TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) is the standard specification for low-slope residential roofs in Southern California as of 2026, primarily because it reflects solar heat — a practical advantage in the Burbank climate where California’s Title 24 building energy standards encourage cool-roof materials on low-slope surfaces. The seams on this installation show the characteristic heat-welded ridges of a properly completed TPO job, with pipe penetrations sealed with cured flashing boots.
The chimney flashing was rebuilt using new metal step and counter flashing, re-integrated with the brick courses and sealed. Deteriorated flashing is one of the top 3 sources of interior water damage on homes with masonry chimneys — and on older Burbank homes like this one, it’s frequently the last component to get attention until it fails completely.
